Honey, I shrunk the lids

Wye Valley Apiaries began with sites along the Wye River from Monmouth and the Forest of Dean through to the orchards of Ross and Hereford. Over the past 12 years it has grown both in hive numbers and geographical area and this year 600 hives will be sited across 6-7 counties, with over 85% of the hives involved in orchard pollination along the Wye Valley. The year's crop is local clear and creamed blossom honey as well as borage and heather honey, when available.

In order to provide tamper-evident security for their products, Wye Valley Apiaries are now using transparent Viskring seals on selected jar sizes. Supplied uniquely by Viscose Closures of Crawley, Viskrings are environmentally friendly self shrinking closures made from regenerated cellulose, They are totally biodegradable and are applied by hand, without the use of heat.

"Viskrings proved a cheap and effective way of providing the added level of protection we were looking for," commented Gareth Baker from Wye Valley, "and knowing they are biodegradable is an added bonus."
